(Don't Come Crying To Me / Better Dead / Wondering Why / Top Secret / Professionals
// Enemy Man / Girls Who Play Tricks On You / Wake Up / Firefight / I Don't Want
Nothin' From You)
Tremendous glam/metal/punk from an underrated, or at least undermentioned band. And
not heavy metal - when people talk about MX80's avant metal I immediately think of
these guys.[HW]
Coldcock Detroit
- I Wanna Be Rich / You're A Mess 7" Coldcock CC001, 1979 PS
Cubes
- Spaceheart / Pickup // On A Leash / Changing Fractions 7" Tremor TR009, 1979 PS
Cubes/Americatz
- One After 1 / Cat Tracks split LP Tremor trlp102, 1981
(I Can't Hear You / Guiding Lights / It's Not My Fault / Machine Talk / Audio
Visual // Cat Tracks / Stay With Me / Sleep Walkin / So Fine / Rock A Billy)
This stinks. The Cubes side is pretty bland rock and the Americatz are horrible
rockabilly-pop.[BH] Americatz is pretty tame as far as rockabilly revival bands
go. The Cubes side isn't very hot from a pure punk perspective, but I could see
synth fans going for its hard-wave sounds.[JF]

(Keep on Knocking / Rock-N-Roll Victim / Let The World Turn / You're A
Prisoner // Freakin Out / Where Do We Go From Here??? / Politicians In
My Eyes)
Legendary Detroit-style protopunk a la the MC5 or Sonics Rendezvous Band.
A smoker.[BD]
The LP reissues the single along with the five other tracks from the same
recording session. It's really quite an amazing document, especially
considering it was recorded by three black brothers in Detroit in 1975.
It's consistantly great all the way through, although Let The World Turn,
with its slow, dreamy start and extended drum solo, isn't exactly punk.[JF]

Flirt Detroit
- Don't Push Me / Degenerator 7" Real RZR-01, 1978 PS
- Faster Than You / DMA / I'm Not Forgettin / You Burn Me Up 10" UTI 001, 1980
The single is much more hardrock than punk, as heard in both the female
vocalist's singing style and the guitar work. I like the picture sleeve
better than the music. I haven't heard the 10", but it's said to be worse.[JF]
Infections Grand Rapids
- Girls In Magazines / I'm Not Funny 7" Infections, 1981 PS
Infidels Ann Arbor
- Anybody's Girl / Society's Casualty 7" Infddels PS 001, 1978 PS
Almost like a cruder version of the Real Kids. Flipside is great
rock-n-roll punk.[BD] There's also a 1979 single backing Ragnar
Kvaran with an ok B-side (It's All Different Now).[JF]
Ivories
- Dr. Help / Workin' On Me 7" Cupid, 1976 PS

- So American / Piece O' Shit 7" FTM 001, 1978 PS
- I Say Yeah / Cafe Au Lait 7" FTM 002, 1979 PS
- American Guise 12" MoBurb 37373, 1983 (as Motor City Mutants)
(So American/ Optimistic / A Night For Love / Seminar of Love /
What's Your Religion / Machine)
From the first single, Piece O' Shit is a great Iggy and the Stooges
ripoff. But the A-side isn't so hot. The one-sided sleeveless version
was apparently for promo.[JF]
Necros

Plugs Warren
- I Like My Dad / Donna 7" Whirled, 1980 PS
AF, 1980 PS
Amateur-ish teen punk/trash. Reminds me both spiritually, musically and
graphically of the Zits (VA).[MT]

Decent glam punk sound.[HW]
R.U.R.
- Go, Baby / Where Can I Get In Touch? // I Wanna Know / The Fugitive 7"
Nebula 3, 1979 PS
Pretty decent record if you're a fan of the very Detroit-centric genre of
punk/hardrock/wave.[JF]

Rammit / Wild Thing / Teeth)
- Nice Nights 7" Run Quik, 1985 PS
(Nice Nights // Searching Sister's Room / Mess)
Lofi garagepunk like the Gizmos, but even cruder (both music & lyrics).[BD]
Sewers Of Paris
- Lost Little Girls / Punk Rock 7" KGB 00079, 1979 PS
Decent Detroit-style punk 'n' roll. Labels credit band as only Jack Black,
who was the vocalist. There are two different picture sleeve designs, one
which credits only Sewers Of Paris and the other both Jack Black and the
band name.[JF]
Sillies Detroit
- No Big Deal / Is There Lunch After Death 7" Nebula NBS2, 1979 PS
Six
- Happy Again / Out Of My Mind 7" Flying Turtle, 1980 PS
Very MC5 influenced.[JF]
Sonic's Rendezvous Band Detroit
- City Slang (stereo) / City Slang (mono) 7" Orchidé OR1002, 1978 PS
Springs
- 7" 1982? HS
(4 tracks)
Most copies sleeveless, although a number came with a thin silkscreened black
and dayglo green sleeve. The music is garagey/thuggish, the vocals melodic.[RM]
State
- No Illusions 7" Statement, 1983 PS
Havoc, 2005 PS
(No Illusions / Subvert / New Right / Attention / Girl Violence /
Police State / Hard Line)
Tommy Trash Detroit
- Love's Gone Bad / Tell Me My Name 7" Sound Patterns, 1981 PS
- Love Potion #9 / The Telephone 7" Sound Patterns SP-9169/SP-9170, 1982 PS
- I'm A Disgrace / Why Not 7" Sound Patterns SP9171/SP9172, 1983 PS
- I Like Blondes / I Wanta Be Rich 7" Sound Patterns SP9173/SP9174, 1984? PS
I'm A Disgrace and Why Not are pretty good punk 'n roll. The cover of
Love Potion #9 with its thuggish vocals and sax reminds me a little of the
Saints.[MT] All much more rock and roll than punk, although I Wanta Be Rich
is a fairly straight-forward (but slightly misspelled) cover of the Coldcock
classic.[JF]
Toxic Attitude
- Stupid Teenage Music 7" Depression D.R.01, 1983 PS
(Experimental Grounds / W.T.B.A.T.? / Credit Cards / Cascade Hills //
War Crimes / Tainted / Drank Too Much)
Aptly titled. Decent fun teen hardcore. Cascade Hills is a localised version of
The Circle Jerks' Beverly Hills.[HW]
Twenty Seven Detroit
- Don't Go To Extremes // Catastrophe / Lifeblood 7" Tremor TR006, 1978 PS
Victim Eyes Detroit
- It's Alright... 7" No Contract VE001, 1979 PS

Pretty good Real Kids/DMZ-style punk 'n roll.[MT]

Various - Cruisin' Ann Arbor LP Ann Arbor Music Project, 1982
(George Bedard And The Bonnevilles - What A Shame / The Blue Front Persuaders -
Up Yer Nose / Urbanations - Surfboard Baby / Ragnar Kvaran - Cookies For
Breakfast / Steve Newhouse Band - Mama Brought Me Up / Peter Madact Ruth -
Watchin' The World / Non-Fiction - Walkie Talkie / VVT - The Easy Way / Cult
Heroes - Lexington / It Play - Tunnel Of Love / Mike Gould And The Gene Pool -
All Messed Up (And Nowhere To Go))
This city-based comp is most notable for the Cult Heroes track, but it's far from their best work,
partially because it is recorded live, like everything else here. The B-side is labeled Downtown
and has some other wavey/arty sounds, but nothing really punk. The A-side, labeled Uptown, is all
blues rock bar bands and is entirely skipable. A second volume from 1984 has a decent track by The
State.[JF]
