Early sleeves have on the back a (modified) photo of a 1950s band, who later
sued or threatened to do so. Subsequently, the photo was further modified by
removing the band members heads! My 1982 Faulty copy has yet a different photo
with four elderly people sitting around a table. I'm not sure how current
Alternative Tentacles releases look, but I think Police Truck is missing. I think
I'd rather track Sex Pistol bootlegs than figure out variations on this.[TW]

(K1 Chorale / Nothing Is Everything Is Nothing / Self Denial / Relativity /
Speech Kills / Verbal Tyranny / I Am The Walrus // Toxic Schlock Syndrome /
Outcast Shuffle / Internal Affairs / Double Bind / Reality My Way / Hit Or Kiss)
B-side of the single is cool: two minutes, good fuzz guitar, and no keyboards,
but the overwrought vocals will annoy some listeners. The A-side is weird
monotonous fuzz guitar-driven DIY. The LP is much more eclectic/experimental.
Speech Kills has the same fuzz guitar from the single, but is a slower, less
driving track. There's not much there for punk fans, but it would probably be
of a lot of interest to those who collect odd private press LPs. Robert also
did a couple of 7"s with Nominal State, which are of interest to minimal synth
collectors.[JF]

James Goss & the Geeks
- Poland / The Spark 7" The Geeks, 1981 PS
They self-released one LP as the Geeks called It's Not About Notes in 1979.
It is pretty much free jazz but with a low fi punk sound - but still I would
call it free jazz rather than punk. James Goss was a black poet friend of
theirs who chants & sings his poetry over the top of something that sounds
like a punk version of Archie Shepp circa 1974 or a rudimentary Butthole Surfers.
That stuff I'd call punk, though more art punk than anything else. Their drummer
went on to own a sound company in Frisco, Radley Hirsch. He put the sound system
in at Gilman and ran it for years. He also did Epicenter's sound system. Horn
players Neil Kaitner & JX Jones now play with Polkacide. I am releasing a
2 song 7" Hey Wreck / Dreamland on my label, SS Records. It was recorded
at the same time Poland was and with James Goss, who is now a prison
minister/shrink and a very nice guy.[Scott Soriano]
